Some think crop circles are created with some kind of electromagnetic beam technology. American/British researcher Freddy Silva has reported that there are photographs of beams of light coming straight down from the sky where, later, crop formations appear. Australian researcher Brian Sullen calls these beams of light a “sound stylus or pen,” as high-pitched sound in the range of 6 kHz has been recorded in his country.

It is more common to hear about the positive effects of entering these symbols. Silva has reported that hundreds of healings have been attributed to being inside a crop circle formation, as well as phenomena like consciousness expansion, feelings of euphoria, and psychic abilities (see chapter 6). However, what is not as widely known is that some people do get sick upon entering a crop circle. Nausea, headaches, and disorientation have also been reported. It is also unknown why these circles affect one person one way and another person another. Why these situations are not as openly discussed is not clear. It is ironic, however, because the oldest known official report of a crop circle—in 1678 in Hertfordshire, England—is associated with an illness that the farmer attributed to being inside the circle made by what he thought was the “Mower's Devil.”

A trend in the formations is to utilize extremely complex fractal patterns, or sacred geometric patterns that reflect “changes of state,” to convey intricate data. These formations, which often appear in 3D (including a full Mandelbrot Set—August 13, 1991, in Cambridge) or in images that follow the contour of the land but appear perfect from above (like the Silbury Hill formations—July 6 and 7, 2007, in Wiltshire, England) are becoming more common. Pentagonal (fivefold), hexagonal (sixfold), and heptagonal (ninefold) symmetries, all representative of human DNA and biology and hyper-dimensional mathematics, are frequent as well.

The circles have now appeared in twenty-six countries, represented by at least as many websites on the Internet. Curiously, however, England has garnered roughly 80 percent of them, with most appearing in southern England in the counties of Wiltshire and Hampshire. While there has not been a definitive answer as to why this is so, Silva suggests that it is because these areas sit on top of one of the world's largest chalk aquifers. This is significant, he says, because chalk is a good conductor of energy and water is an excellent way to store information.

In support of this, Silva pointed out at the Bay Area UFO Expo in 2006, that tests have shown that crop circle formations energetically imprint water left in bowls in the fields to levels up to 160 percent above the energetic imprinting of a bowl of water left in a normal field.
